Dr Armstrong graduated Melbourne University Medical School in 1974. During her training she worked in general medicine and surgery in the South Pacific. On moving to Sydney she worked as a GP for five years in country and metropolitan New South Wales.

Her eye training was done under the late Professor Fred Hollows at Prince of Wales Hospital and at Sydney Eye Hospital. Resulting in becoming a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 1984.

Dr Armstrong started her own practice 1986 in Blacktown and in 1993 opened the first ophthalmic day surgery in Western Sydney. The day surgery (MetWest Surgical) has enjoyed full accreditation status from that date and Dr Armstrong has performed over 7,500 eye procedures during that time.

Dr Armstrong enjoys gardening and has a keen interest in the arts – and can often be spotted in one of Sydney’s many galleries on a weekend.
